It’s hard to imagine how many artists Kathy Kucsan has helped during her career.
Having gotten my undergraduate degree in Des Moines, I got fired up about political elections as soon as I could legally vote. After all, we had the Iowa Caucuses, bringing in scores of cable network trucks and suited dudes who might be that senator we just saw on “Meet the Press.”
Recently, one of my friends called me out on my laugh. We’ve been trying to be more accountable to each other these days, and she pointed out that I laugh when I don’t want to deal with real issues. She was annoyingly right.
When Amy Zuckerman co-authored “Sexual Orientation in the Workplace: Gay Men, Lesbians, Bisexuals, and Heterosexuals Working Together,” she wouldn’t have guessed that the book, published in the mid-’90s, would guide the next decade of her life.
In first grade it looked like I was always in trouble. At recess I would sit on a concrete block next to a large refrigeration unit, which is where the kids in “time out” were designated to stay. However, after their time in punishment passed (usually under 10 minutes), they would be back out playing with the other kids. I wouldn’t budge.
If you go to Bonnaroo, Langerado, or get a spot on the ever-sold-out Jam Cruise, you might notice there’s an extra buzz in the air. It could be the bands; these festivals are known for showcasing the best jam bands on the scene. Most likely, however, the extra energy is due to one Red-Bull-fueled woman who wears the hats of organizer, marketer, and producer, and who spends countless hours making sure the bands are happy.
